Principal Message

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students, staff and parents of New Dundee Public School for providing me the most wonderful start to the year. Each day it is a pleasure to come to work and serve this great community. The children’s smiling faces continue to be my inspiration. One of the most important jobs entrusted to a school is to assure that we guide and provide children with life and academic lessons that assist in creating a community of caring, kind and productive citizens. I will continue to work diligently in assuring that New Dundee Public School remains a safe and positive environment for your child. I truly appreciate the support that parents have shown and I look forward to the many exciting events in the new year.

I wish each of you a wonderful holiday. May it be one of love, peace and happiness.

I am pleased to announce that we have partnered up the National Football League (NFL) to promote the Play 60 program. New Dundee Public School is one of four schools across Canada to be selected for this program. The purpose of the program is to motivate students to move more before, during, and after school for at least 60 minutes every day. We are encouraging all students and their families to get moving in January. There will be a kick off assembly on Tuesday, January 5 to launch the program. We are looking for parents and community members to volunteer during nutrition breaks to help run programs, if you are able to help out please email andrea_michelutti@wrdsb.on.ca. This program will run for 28 days. More information will be shared after the kick off assembly. The school will the highest participation rate will receive prizes and an opportunity to have guest speakers visit the school.

Indoor Shoes

Thank you to the families who have already sent in a pair of indoor shoes. We still have quite a few students without indoor shoes. Please send a pair of running shoes with your child this week. Proper shoes are required for gym class and indoor shoes keep the classrooms and school clean.

Police Checks for Volunteers

To align with the new board policy, volunteers at the school will require a Police Vulnerable Sector Check. We are asking that parents and family members who are interesting in volunteering in the school or on field trips have this check completed. Last Wednesday, a letter was sent home with each student that will allow for volunteers to receive this check at the reduced rate of $10. Once you receive your Police Vulnerable Sector Check, please send it to the office. If you have any questions or concerns, please email andrea_michelutti@wrdsb.on.ca or call the school at 519-696-2296.

Christmas Break

Just a reminder the school will be closed from December 19 to January 3 for the Christmas Break. We are looking forward to seeing all of our students on Monday, January 4.

Bag to School

Out with the old and in with the new. Bag2School is back! Fill up the blue bag that will come home before the Christmas break with gently used clothing, shoes, bedding, coats, belts and soft toys. These items will be collected, weighed and distributed to those in need in developing countries. For each tonne collected our school will receive $200. Since we have started this campaign, we have raised over $1900. Look for a flyer to come home in December with information regarding drop off times and locations. Help us help others!

Beginning on Monday, January 4 to Friday, January 8 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., items can be dropped off at the school. Please ring the extended day buzzer before or after the regular school day. On Saturday, January 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., items can be dropped off in the parking lot. Thank you to Cindy Habel for organizing this activity.
