May is Music Month at New Dundee!

On May 4, our students participated in Music Monday. Music Monday is an annual initiative that brings together thousands of students, musicians, parents and community members across the country to celebrate the gift of music in our lives, on the same day at the same time. Since student safety and well-being is our first priority, our students couldn’t perform for our neighbours at Maple Heights as thunder was reported in the area and the weather forecast called for unpredictable weather. Instead, our students viewed a live webcast and listened to different types of music being performed in Montreal and Calgary. At the end of the webcast, the students sang “We are One” with thousands of other students across Canada. Thank you to our parents for supporting this event.

Music Concert on May 6

Our music celebrations continue on Wednesday, May 6 as our students will perform the songs they wrote and recorded with songwriter Katherine Wheatley. The students will perform two concerts: the afternoon concert will begin around 12:15 p.m. and the evening concert will begin around 7:00 p.m. at New Dundee Public School.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the evening concert. Students are asked to arrive before 6:50 p.m. and should report to their classrooms. Parking is very limited. Families are encouraged to walk to the school for the evening concert. If you are driving, please park on neighbouring streets and be aware of driveways.

The songs and lyrics are available under the Music 2014/2015 tab on our website:

Dance-a-thon “Building the Band”

On May 21, the students from New Dundee Public School will be joining the students at Sir Adam Beck Public School. Beginning in September 2015, our grade 6 students will now move to Sir Adam Beck Public School for Grade 7 and Grade 8. All money raised will be used to purchase instruments for the Intermediate music program. We are hoping to raise $5000 from the students and families from New Dundee Public School. This morning our students participated in the kick-off assembly for the dance-a-thon. Please return your pledge forms to New Dundee by May 19.

If you would like more information on the “Building the Band” project or would like to donate, please read the attached letter.
