Upcoming events: May 11 to May 15

Thank you for supporting our Katherine Wheatley concert. It was great to seeing our families and friends cheering on our students as they performed their songs. All of our students did an amazing job!

Monday, May 11 is Colour House Day! Please wear your house colours.

Dragon Run: Please join us on Tuesday, May 12 (rain date: May 13) as over 100 students will be participating as part of the New Dundee Cross Country Running Team. The first run will take place around 3:45 p.m. If you received a permission form through School-Day, please fill it out so your child can participate. Please note that parents are responsible for making arrangement for their own transportation home from the New Dundee Park.

French Soirée: Bonjour à tous et à toutes! Join us on Thursday.

You are cordially invited to a French Soirée hosted by Mme. Upton and students at New Dundee PS! It has been a great start to the French program at New Dundee, and we want to give our parents and families an opportunity to come to the school and meet the new French teacher! There will be authentic French treats and a few more surprises! You won’t want to miss out.

Please join us on Thursday, May 14 between 3:40 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. OR 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the French Room

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mme. Upton at the school. Hope to see you there! À bientôt!

Friday, May 15: We have 2 special guests visiting our school on Friday. During the first two blocks, our students will participate in a special Humane Society school presentation. At 2:40 p.m., the students will have an opportunity to learn about the latest robots from ODG’s Space Robotics Program. This experience will provide our students with the chance to see the importance of studying science and technology. Please view the youtube clip to see the robots in action:

Dance-a-thon on May 21: We are getting excited for our upcoming joint dance-a-thon with the students at Sir Adam Beck P.S. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $25 per student to support the instrumental music program. Even though your child may be a few years away from attending Sir Adam Beck, your child will benefit from participating in a well established music program.

Please fill out the permission form by May 19 to allow your child to attend this fun event and active event. Your child may bring additional money to purchase items from the glow store.

Students in Grade 2, 3 and 4 (Grade 2s in room 7 and Grade 4s in room 1) will leave New Dundee at 9:20 a.m., arrive at Sir Adam Beck at 9:40 a.m., and will depart at 10:25 a.m.

Victoria Day Day Parade on Monday, May 18: We are excited to participate in the New Dundee Victoria Day Parade. This year’s theme is “Our Flag – 50 years in the making” and we encourage all students to wear red and white (Canadian apparel would be great too). If your child would like to be part of the New Dundee P.S. float, please meet at the New Dundee Business Park at 1:15 p.m. We are also looking for a few parents to walk the parade route with the school’s float.

The parade committee is also encouraging students to participate in the parade by entering the pets, nursery rhymes, bicycles, or power wheels categories (prizes will be awarded).

Bag-2-School Fundraising Project: Having a garage sale this weekend or simply doing some spring cleaning? Let us help you with those items that don’t sell or you no longer want – donate them to us and we’ll make sure they go to a new home, while supporting the school at the same time! We will be collecting the following clean, gently used items: Clothing, soft toys, shoes and boots (tied together), belts, purses, material, linens, towels and drapery.

Bag2School is a company that specializes in collecting good quality, second-hand clothing & household items for reuse in developing countries. For every ton of bags collected the school will earn $200 from Bag2School.

Simply collect your reusable items, place them in a plastic bag (please no boxes) and drop it off at the New Dundee P.S. or at 1371 Bridge St. East between Tuesday May 19 to Friday May 22 (8:30-9:30am & 3:30- 4:30pm) and Saturday, May 23 (9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.). The money raised from this project supports our students by subsidizing field trips for all students, purchasing devices for the classroom, and providing enhancements for students.

We need volunteers for this project. If you are available, please call the office at 519-696-2296.
Thank you for another great week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 519-696-2296 or send me an email at andrea_michelutti@wrdsb.on.ca.
