Victoria Day Parade on Monday, May 18: All students are invited to participate in the New Dundee Victoria Day Parade. This year’s theme is “Our Flag – 50 years in the making.” Students are encouraged to wear red and white to show their Canadian spirit. Please come to the New Dundee Business Park at 1:15 p.m. to join the school’s float. Participating students will wave Canadian Flags, hold different Canadian props and throw candy along the parade route. Parents are welcome to join the students along the parade route. At the end of the parade, parents are asked to pick up their children at the bandstand at New Dundee Park.

Colour House: On Tuesday, May 19, students are encouraged to wear their house colours. We are postponing colour house activities.

Bag-2-School Fundraising Project: Having a garage sale this weekend or simply doing some spring cleaning? Let us help you with those items that don’t sell or you no longer want – donate them to us and we’ll make sure they go to a new home, while supporting the school at the same time! We will be collecting the following clean, gently used items: Clothing, soft toys, shoes and boots (tied together), belts, purses, material, linens, towels and drapery.

Bag2School is a company that specializes in collecting good quality, second-hand clothing & household items for reuse in developing countries. For every ton of bags collected the school will earn $200 from Bag2School.

Simply collect your reusable items, place them in a plastic bag (please no boxes) and drop it off at the New Dundee P.S. or at 1371 Bridge St. East between Tuesday May 19 to Friday May 22 (8:30-9:30am & 3:30- 4:30pm) and Saturday, May 23 (9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.). The money raised from this project supports our students by subsidizing field trips for all students, purchasing devices for the classroom, and providing enhancements for students.

We need volunteers for this project. If you are available, please call the office at 519-696-2296.

Dance-a-thon on May 21: We are getting excited for our upcoming joint dance-a-thon with the students at Sir Adam Beck P.S. Our goal is to raise a minimum of $25 per student to support the instrumental music program. Even though your child may be a few years away from attending Sir Adam Beck, your child will benefit from participating in a well established music program. Pledge forms are due to the office on Tuesday, May 19. Students who raise a minimum of $25 will receive a special glow item and students who raise more than $50 will receive two special glow items.

Please fill out the permission form by May 19 to allow your child to attend this fun event and active event. Your child may bring additional money to purchase items from the glow store. Students in Grade 2 to Grade 6 may also purchase juice boxes for $1.

Grade 2, 3 and 4 (Grade 2s in rm 7; Grade 4s in rm 1) will leave at 9:20 a.m. and return at 10:45 a.m.

Kindergarten and Grade 1 (Grade 1s in rm 7) will leave at 10:40 a.m. and return at 12:05 p.m.

A special thank you to Angie Hallman, one of our parents, for arranging the visit from ODG to demonstrate their new J5 ARGO on Friday afternoon. We event was featured on the CTV news and two of our students were interviewed. Ask your child about the cool lunar vehicles that were at New Dundee.

Thank you for another great week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 519-696-2296 or send me an email at andrea_michelutti@wrdsb.on.ca.
