Principal Message

Thank you to our families who have donated yarn to our knitting club. Our students are busy making scarves and necklaces. Thank you to Mrs. Kleinsteuber for organizing this club. If you have questions about your child’s progress, please contact your child’s teachers. Your child’s teachers are there to work with you to ensure your child has a great school experience.

Indoor Shoes

Thank you to the families who have already sent in a pair of indoor shoes. If you haven’t done so yet, please send a pair of running shoes with your child this week. Proper shoes are required for gym class and indoor shoes keep the classrooms and school clean.

Dressing for the Weather

Students go outside for recess twice a day and are reminded to dress appropriately for the weather. Please remember to hats, mittens, boots, and a warm jacket to school.

Police Checks for Volunteers

To align with the new board policy, volunteers at the school will require a Police Vulnerable Sector Check. We are asking that parents and family members who are interesting in volunteering in the school or on field trips have this check completed. Last Wednesday, a letter was sent home with each student that will allow for volunteers to receive this check at the reduced rate of $10. Once you receive your Police Vulnerable Sector Check, please send it to the office. If you have any questions or concerns, please email andrea_michelutti@wrdsb.on.ca or call the school at 519-696-2296.

We are excited for our Christmas Concert! This year’s concert will take place on Tuesday, December 15 at the Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church located at 1531 Bridge Street in New Dundee. There will be a dress rehearsal at 10:00 a.m. and the evening concert at 7:00 p.m.

Optibotics Club Expo – December 4

The Optibotics Club invites you to attend their Expo on December 4th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Conestoga College Cambridge Campus, 850 Fountain Street South, Cambridge.

The Optibotics Club is the new non-profit local robotics club in New Dundee, sponsored by the Optimist Club of New Dundee. There are three official Jr FIRST Lego League teams and each team has six students per team (eighteen students total each week), aged 6 to 9. This club is supported by seven mentors. FIRST is an international non-profit organization which stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. They arrange curriculum-tied programs for various age groups. The older age groups build robots that compete against each other. The Jr First Lego League age group builds a 14”x14” Lego model to depict a “real world” problem and how technology solves the problem. Their model has robotic moving parts and is programmed with software.

Bag to School

Out with the old and in with the new. Bag2School is back! Fill up the blue bag that will come home before the Christmas break with gently used clothing, shoes, bedding, coats, belts and soft toys. These items will be collected, weighed and distributed to those in need in developing countries. For each tonne collected our school will receive $200. Since we have started this campaign, we have raised over $1900. Look for a flyer to come home in December with information regarding drop off times and locations. Help us help others!

Beginning on Monday, January 4 to Friday, January 8 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., items can be dropped off at the school. Please ring the extended day buzzer before or after the regular school day. On Saturday, January 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., items can be dropped off in the parking lot. Thank you to Cindy Habel for organizing this activity.
