Principal Message

We would like to wish Mrs. Picassinos all the best as she begins her maternity leave. We would like to welcome Ms. Colville as the new teacher in room 7. Just a reminder to wear Red, White, and Pink on Friday to celebrate Valentine’s Day!

Addition of PA Day for 2015-2016 School Year

As a result of recent labour agreements, an additional Professional Activity Day (PA Day) has been added to the 2015-2016 School Year Calendar for both elementary and secondary students. Trustees approved Friday, February 26, as the additional PA Day, at the January Board Meeting.

School administrators are presently reviewing school activities planned for February 26th. Every effort will be made to reschedule activities that have been planned for this day.

This PA Day will be dedicated to Ministry initiatives that support student learning and well-being. In addition, for elementary staff, planning continues for a half session focused on Health and Safety.

Crayola Markers

Crayola has launched Crayola ColorCycle to collect and repurpose used markers. Just 8.3 pounds of plastic (markers) can be made into 4 litres of fuel for cars. If you have old used markers (doesn’t have to be Crayola), please send them to school. This initiative will be used as a task for our Green Team.

Tim Horton’s Roll up the Rim Collection

We are collecting winning Roll up the Rim winning tags and donating them to lose less fortunate. If you would like to send them to school, please ask your child to bring them to the office.

Me to We – Newcomer (Refugee) Fundraiser

Waterloo Region has a strong history in supporting newcomer settlement and has recently been identified as one of six Ontario communities supporting refugee reception. It will receive more than 1,000 government-assisted and privately sponsored refugees beginning in December 2015, with the majority of them arriving in January and February of 2016. These newcomers will receive resettlement assistance within our community.

The Waterloo Region District School Board is a safe, caring and inclusive community and is working collaboratively with municipalities and community partners to ensure a seamless and coordinated access to resettlement supports.

The Waterloo Region District School Board is an active partner in the recently established Refugee Resettlement Steering Committee which has direct oversight of the regional resettlement efforts.

People in Waterloo Region are compassionate and caring and have responded generously to appeals for assistance in times of extraordinary need or disaster at home and around the world. In responding to the emergent re-settlement needs of these newcomers, the Waterloo Region District School Board will be launching the “Newcomer (Refugee) Welcome” board-wide fundraising initiative.

What New Dundee Is Doing…

Valentine’s Day Fundraiser

The week prior to Valentine’s Day (February 7th-February 11th) New Dundee families are asked to “Show You Care” this Valentine’s Day season by bringing in donations to support this board initiative.

Families are asked to consider donating to this cause instead of distributing treats to classmates. This will emphasis to our students the importance of giving back to others in need.

The top two classes will be awarded prizes for their contributions.

The first place class will receive a Hot Chocolate Party!

The runner up will receive additional gym time.

Thank you for your support and don’t forget to “Show You Care” this Valentine’s Day.
